A communal smile can improve student motivation, pupil-teacher relations and cater for affective needs, as well as offering many valuable linguistic benefits. A look at these will be backed up with some ready to use practical ideas drawn from Primary Kid's Box a new course for classes 1-3 of Polish Primary Schools and the Cambridge Primary Box series.
Michael Tomlinson has been teaching English since 1989. He has worked in the UK, Turkey, Spain and Sweden, with students ranging from children to adults and from beginner to proficiency level. With the introduction of the new, obligatory Gimnazjum exam, both students and teachers have to face the challenge earlier. But is it really necessary? Should we test children and young learners? In this presentation we will show how the Cambridge Tests - YLE , KET for Schools and PET for Schools - tailored to suit the interests and experience of Primary and Gimnazjum learners, develop real life skills, build students' confidence and strengthen their motivation. Additionally, some ideas for interesting classroom activities and efficient exam preparation will be provided.
Barbara Szybowska is a graduate of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and a teacher of English. She has taught nearly all age groups, levels and course types as she loves new challenges and is always eager to share her experience. Towards the Gimnazjum Exam Grand Finale
Bartłomiej Jaślikowski, Cambridge University Press
Teaching English to teenage groups is definitely challenging and with good reason. Mood swings, puberty ups and downs, emotional
uncertainty and difficulties in understanding the world around do notmake a teacher's life easy. Yet, we choose to continue teaching
against this adolescence background. But how do we teach the exam
skills to teenagers? How do we prepare them for the grand finale in
English? Which exam techniques should we pay special attention to?
In this talk we will have a chance to look at how to motivate gimnazjum
students to focus on the exam preparation as well as which exam techniques and skills are practised in the new Exam Edition of the
highly acclaimed English in Mind course book.
Bartłomiej Jaślikowski is a graduate of the English Philology department at Warsaw University and group trainer with a diploma of Laboratory
of Psychological Training and SWPS in Warsaw, founder of training and professional development company "goodteachers.eu". He started
teaching English in 1998 and in 2005 also got involved in teacher training
around Poland. Complicated human personality alongside working
with and analyzing the intricacies of group processes through application of dynamic social psychology are the two things which make him tick.
